![]() ![]() Well, I think writing is in the family genes. In actuality the idea for those two books came from the publishers. I had just assumed it was Jeff’s idea to continue his dad’s work, creating the two books that would sandwich his dad’s novel. Shaara didn’t get to realize this, but his son did. ![]() The recognition finally came when the movie Gettysburg, based on the book, was released in 1993. That’s sad to me, because it is such a good book. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1975, it did not receive the public recognition it deserved until after Michael Shaara’s death at age 50. Let me first talk about The Killer Angels. Without that great book, there would be no Gods and Generals, or the many other books Jeff has written since this first one. For those who may not know, Jeff Shaara is the son of Michael Shaara who wrote The Killer Angels. ![]()
